Not mandatory
Laser class 2:
Not mandatory
Safe at random, unintentional
radiotherapy
With Laser Pointer:
Maximum Performance: 1 mW
Laser class 1M | 2M | 3A:
As laser classes 1 and 2,
but optical instruments for viewing
the beam may not be used
Laser class 3R:
Only trained persons may use laser devices
Avoid beam guidance in the eye area
Laser class 3B:
Technical measures
(eg. Housing and curtains)
Use PPE and laser safety goggles

8© STFI - Proposal for DIN-SPEC. Subject to change!
The laser protection representative individually deter-
mines the predictable maximum radiation (VBM val-
ue) for the laser system and the respective process and
species the required protection level of the laser PPE
based on this.
RISKS AND PROTECTIVE MEASURES:
Due to the eects of
intensive laser radiation on the
health of employees with regard
to the eyes and skin, the use of
personal protective equipment (PPE)
is required in the OstrV (Occupation-
al Safety Regulations on Articial
Optical Radiation) if protection
cannot be ensured with technical or
organizational measures alone.
